Recently I moved to a new home and purchased 3 Closetmaid large storage cabinets from Home Depot for $900. This was only 2 months and the products are HORRIBLE! Here is a list of problems:
1. THE UNITS CANNOT HOLD THE WEIGHT ON THE SHELVES WITH THE SHABBY PLASTIC HOLDERS THAT COME WITH THE UNIT. THE LOWER SLELVES COLASPE.
2. THE DOOR HINGES ARE TOTALLY INADEQUATE AS THEY FALL OFF WITH USAGE.
3. I HAVE HAD TO FORTIFY ALL THE SHELVES WITH L-BRACKETS.
4. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HINGLES WITH STANLEY PRODUCTS.
5. I HAVE SPENT $$$ AND TIME TO FIX THESE PRODUCT DEFLECTS.
I sent no fewer than 7 letters to Closetmaid executives and managers including the Director of Home Depot Sales. Included in the documents were pictures of all the issues and yet not one person got back to me!
What CM customer service has said is return your units to Home Depot. The recommendation is for me to unload everything, stuff all the parts in a truck and lug it back to HD. Then I buy other products, built the units and then load them. They seem to have forgotten the countless hours I spent building and loading the dumb cabinets. Basically CM customer service has stopped communicating with me.
So if you want to avoid problems, then at all costs DO NOT purchase these ClosetMaid products as they are 100% inadequate for their intended use which is storage. You would be better off putting up a few 2 x 4s on top of a few bricks.
